Motorist Convicted of Criminally Negligent Homicide in Death of Boy

MEMPHIS – Nov. 21, 2014 - A motorist who hit and killed a 3-year-old boy in 2011 in southeast Memphis was convicted Thursday of criminally negligent homicide and reckless driving, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
David Higgins Jr., 25, who was charged with vehicular homicide in the death of Eric Williams, also was convicted of driving on a suspended license.
He faces up to two years in prison when he is sentenced Dec. 15 by Criminal Court Judge W. Mark Ward.
The incident occurred on May 22, 2011, at the Highland Pines Apartments at 3677 Outland Drive in southeast Memphis.
The case was handled by assistant district attorneys Michael McCusker and Jennifer Morris of the DA’s DUI Prosecution Task Force.
