Two Women Convicted of Vandalism, Arson

Two Women Convicted of Vandalism, Arson SCSO, SCDAG
MEMPHIS – Two women have been convicted of vandalizing and burning an automobile owned by another woman, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Amy Weirich said Monday.
Brittany Gibbs and Ashley Hooker, both 27, were convicted of vandalism over $1,000 and setting fire to personal property, both felonies.
They will be sentenced Feb. 27 by Criminal Court Judge Chris Craft.
The women were convicted of smashing out the rear windshield of another woman’s Nissan Sentra on Feb. 12, 2011, parked outside an apartment in the 4600 block of Water Mill Drive in Whitehaven. The victim said the two women returned several minutes later, lit a rag and threw it through the broken window, causing the vehicle to ignite. The car was destroyed by the fire.
The victim said the defendants had been making threats against her on social media and by telephone, alleging that the victim “stole” the boyfriend of a relative of theirs.
The case was handled by assistant district attorney Marianne Bell.
