The team coached by assistant district attorney Bridgett Stigger and U of M law professor Demetria Frank won the opportunity to participate in the national competition March 11-15 in Portland, Ore.
Stigger competed in mock trial as a student between 2008-2010 and credits her coach, Melanie Murry, legal counsel for the U of M, for much of her success.
Stigger now has been coaching student teams for the past five years, including one team that won a first-place national title.
Since graduating, she has been a guardian ad litem in Juvenile Court and a criminal defense lawyer before joining the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office in November of 2011.
"My mock trial experience helped me develop into the lawyer I am today,” said Stigger, who worked as a prosecutor in Juvenile Court for two years before moving to her current assignment as a prosecutor in Criminal Court Division III. “I strive to be the type of coach I had.”
