Man Indicted in North Memphis Shootings

MEMPHIS – Feb. 23, 2015 - A Hickory Hill-area man has been indicted in the shooting death of one man and the wounding of another last summer in North Memphis, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Amy Weirich said Monday.
Billy Ray Boyd Jr., 21, of the 6400 block of Freelark Lane, was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and employment of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.
The shootings occurred around 10 p.m. on July 5 last year at a residence in the 2200 block of Vollintine where Taurus Brown, 42, was shot in the head and killed and neighbor Lewis Ballard, 28, was wounded in the shoulder.
MPD Investigators said the motive for the shooting was robbery.
Boyd was arrested about a week later.
He is being held without bond in the Shelby County Jail.
