Motorist Indicted in Hit-and-Run Death

MEMPHIS – Mar. 26, 2015 A motorist was indicted Thursday on vehicular homicide charges stemming from a hit-and-run accident in November in which one pedestrian was killed and three others were injured, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Amy Weirich.
Quarterion Johnson, 31, also was indicted on four counts of aggravated assault, driving on a revoked license, leaving the scene of an accident involving death or injury, reckless driving, no insurance and failure to yield with serious injury or death.
He is being held on $25,000 bond.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Nov. 4 at Saratoga and Grand in Orange Mound.
Investigators said Johnson was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus at a high rate of speed eastbound on Saratoga at Grand where he ran a stop sign and struck a red Mitsubishi that was northbound on Grand.
The impact spun the Mitsubishi into a group of four people who were standing on the northeast corner of Saratoga and Grand. Two teens and two adults were taken to the hospital, including 55-year-old Willie Smith who died several hours later.
Johnson drove off, but turned himself in to police the next morning.
