MEMPHIS – Mar. 27, 2015 - A man accused of robbing a South Memphis storeowner at gunpoint in 2011 was convicted Friday by a Criminal Court jury, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Amy Weirich.
Jurors convicted Alphonso Bowen, 32, of aggravated robbery which carries a sentence of from eight to 30 years in prison.
Bowen will be sentenced April 23 by Judge Lee Coffee.
The holdup occurred around noon on June 24, 2011, at the ODAA Grocery at 303 E. Trigg when two men entered the store, went behind the counter and pointed a gun at the clerk’s head.
They threatened to kill her if she moved and then took money, a cell phone, a watch and the owner’s purse.
Later, police crime scene investigators lifted Bowen’s fingerprints from a pack of cigarettes behind the counter. The clerk identified Bowen from a photo lineup as the holdup man with the gun.
The other suspect, and possibly a third acting as a lookout, were never identified.
The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Alexia Crump.
