MEMPHIS – Mar. 31, 2015 - A North Memphis man was indicted Tuesday in a shooting incident last September in which he allegedly fired shots at his girlfriend and at police officers in a passing patrol, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Misael Chica-Arguenta, 25, of the 3200 block of Lyndale, was indicted on three counts of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault and three counts of employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
He is being held on $1 million bond in the Shelby County Jail.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 24 last year when two on-duty officers traveling eastbound on Lyndale heard three gunshots, one of which struck their windshield and landed inside the vehicle.
Other officers responded and noticed a man with a gun on the porch of a home at Lyndale and Hudson. Officers told him to put the gun down, but the gunman instead fired a shot at the officers.
The officers returned fire, striking the gunman, then identified as Chica-Arguenta. He was treated at a hospital and taken into custody.
Inside the house, the defendant’s live-in girlfriend said Chica-Arguenta shot three times at her and physically assaulted her before he went on the porch and shot at officers.
The case will be handled by the DA's Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit. The DVPU prosecutes cases of domestic assault and homicide involving intimate partners.
