MEMPHIS – October 29, 2015 - A 28-year-old man was convicted of first-degree murder Thursday in a Christmas Eve shooting four years ago in Cordova, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Criminal Court Judge W. Mark Ward automatically sentenced defendant Robin Bass II to life in prison following the jury’s verdict.
The victim, Gus Crittle, 28, was killed on Dec. 24, 2011, near his apartment at 8158 Forest Park Drive North when he met Bass for a drug deal, investigators said.
After first denying any involvement, Bass admitted he met Bass that evening to buy marijuana and that he shortchanged Crittle in the transaction.
The victim’s mother testified that Bass later told her that he and her son both had guns and that he only shot Crittle in the hand.
The medical examiner testified that Crittle was shot in the hand and also suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest.
The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Attys. Ray Lepone and Pam Stark.
