This year’s annual Season of Remembrance memorial was hosted by a special guest who endured a heartbreaking loss.
Friends and families of Shelby County homicide victims honored the memory of their loved ones in person at the University of Memphis Rose Theatre for the first time since the pandemic began.
”My family became a victim back in 1997 with the loss of a daughter and two grandchildren to a drunk driver,” said Dave Brown.

That means the sentence will be converted to two consecutive life sentences, Weirich said.
Payne had been sentenced to death in the 1987 fatal stabbings of Charisse Christopher and her 2-year-old daughter in Millington, Tennessee.

Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich and local law enforcement leaders announced the indictments Wednesday, Aug. 11, in front of the three homes that were being used to run what was described as an open-air drug market.
Weirich said those indicted were “dealing death and destruction on the street.”
