Boyfriend Indicted in Killing of Woman’s Son

June 13, 2022 – A North Memphis man has been indicted in the early-morning shooting death last year of his girlfriend’s teenage son during an argument over $5, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.

The grand jury indicted Michael D. Robinson, 32, on counts of first-degree murder, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and tampering with evidence. He is being held without bond.

Robinson has a prior conviction for aggravated assault.

Investigators said the incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. on July 12, 2021, in front of a residence in the 800 block of Randle Street where the 18-year-old victim, Zaqune Harris, lived with his mother.

Witnesses said Robinson and Harris got into an argument over a $5 debt and that when the argument escalated, Robinson went to his car and retrieved a shotgun. He shot Harris once in the chest, then placed the shotgun back in his car and moved the car a short distance from the scene.

Harris was pronounced dead when first-responders arrived.

The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Jose Leon of the District Attorney’s Special Prosecution Unit 8 which seeks maximum sentencing for repeat felony offenders.
