Man Convicted of Rape in Case Involving Teenage Relative

Shelby County, TN – After a three-day trial, a Shelby County jury has found Ladarrius Stokes guilty of rape for the 2020 attack of his 15-year-old relative. The assault occurred at a local motel just days after the victim’s 15th birthday.

Despite the absence of DNA or physical evidence, the victim courageously testified, and her testimony was pivotal to securing the conviction. Prosecutors praised her strength and composure on the stand, calling her testimony "powerful and credible."

“This was a difficult case, but our office remains committed to pursuing justice in every case, especially those involving young victims,” said DA Steve Mulroy. “We are pleased with the verdict and proud of the victim’s bravery.”

Stokes, who faces sentencing at a later date, has two additional pending aggravated assault cases.
