Man Pleads Guilty to 40 Years in Child Rape Case

Shelby County, TN – The State was fully prepared to proceed to trial this week in the case against Eugene Jackson, who faced five counts of Rape, five counts of Especially Aggravated Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, and additional charges including Sexual Battery by an Authority Figure. On Monday, Jackson chose to plead guilty after being confronted with the state's overwhelming evidence, which included a videotape of the abuse and DNA evidence linked to a terminated pregnancy from the minor.

Jackson received a sentence of 40 years in prison at 100%, meaning he will serve the full sentence with no possibility of parole.

The abuse involved a minor female relative. Jackson— as a person in a position of authority, was also charged with Rape by an Authority Figure, Incest and related offenses.

The decision to offer the plea was made in consultation with the victim and her family.

Assistant District Attorney (ADA) Dru Carpenter and Chief Prosecutor Eric Christensen handled the case.
